Prep roundup: Fallon pressure too much for Dayton

FALLON - Pressure kept the Fallon girls basketball team a step ahead of Dayton all night.

The Lady Wave's full-court press kept Dayton off balance, leading to a 20-3 lead after the first quarter, as Fallon captured a 52-14 3A Lahontan League win on Saturday at Elmo Derrico Gym.

"They were just too strong," Dayton coach Cliff Serawop said. "We weren't able to get (good) shots off. We were off-balance shooting, it was tough to get anything going."

By halftime, Fallon led 36-4 and only scored 16 points in the second half to improve to 4-3 in league and 10-10 overall. With the loss, Dayton falls to 0-7 in league and 6-15 overall.

Lean Wolf scored a game-high

14 points while Jenny Rechel and Kaitlyn Jones each added 10. Meribel Ledezma scored a team-high six points for the Dust Devils.

Fallon continued its recent hot streak from shooting outside as Rechel teamed with Gabby Silva, Logan Faught and Kari Coverston to keep Dayton at bay. Fallon's front line contributed 32 points and the team didn't even attempt a free throw for the entire game.

DAYTON - The Dust Devils led 26-18 early in the second half, but foul trouble put key personnel on the bench, and the Greenwave rolled to a 47-31 win Saturday afternoon.

"It was our best game of the year," Dayton coach Ben Halvorsen said. "Our short bench caught up to us. Some girls picked up their fourth fouls in the third quarter and we had to back off what we were doing."

Ashley Sandy led Dayton with 13 points. Dayton, 7-12 hosts Fernley on Friday.
