130 YEARS AGO

From Frank T. Gilbert (continued from Tuesday): In April of 1860, the Pah-Ute convened to have a council. The whites were growing in numbers, killing their game and cutting down their orchards. There was one chief there, the son of Winnemuc-ca, Nu-Ma-Ga, or the "Giver of Food". He was the leader of the group on the reservation and claimed no authority and was given none. Nu-Ma-Ga was an Indian Statesman (Continued on Thursday).

100 YEARS AGO

Yesterday an Appeal reporter witnessed the workings of the criminal system when Riley Woten from Humboldt county was tried for killing a man at National. "He will be roused at a certain hour, fed, be placed in his cell and is rotting in idleness." Governor Oddie pleas for prison reform.

70 YEARS AGO

Funeral services will be held for Amelio Colletti, who died suddenly at the Sierra Nevada mill on the Comstock. Colletti attended Virginia City high school and played on the basketball team.

50 YEARS AGO

A civil rights suit against the Nevada gaming commission's "black book" reached a new plateau today. Plaintiffs claim discrimination.

20 YEARS AGO

Autographed photos of the "Loneliest Road in America" are being offered by the White Pine Chamber of Commerce in Ely.
