YBP hosting event on Wednesday

The Young Business Professionals group is hosting its next meeting from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Steele & Associates, 680 W. Nye Lane, Ste. 202.

Free children's orthopedic clinic planned

The Kerak Shrine Center will host a free orthopedic screening clinic 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Sierra Surgery Hospital, 1400 Medical Parkway, Carson City.

The clinic is for children who have been referred by a school nurse for scoliosis or whose parents suspect an orthopedic problem.

Screenings will be conducted by an orthopedic surgeon and nurses, who will look for the signs of orthopedic problems such as scoliosis, which refers to a curvature of the spine.

Observatory presents tour of Egypt

Mike Thomas, president of the Western Nevada Astronomical Society, will present his "Grand Tour of Egypt" slide-show lecture at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The observatory doors open at 6 p.m.

This lecture recounts his lengthy trip throughout this most interesting country three months ago. It includes many images of the temples, pyramids, and features pictures taken on a Nile River cruise. There are views of the street scenes in Cairo, Alexandria, Aswan, Luxor, etc, and of a visit to Mt. Sinai, and the Suez Canal.

There will be telescope viewing (weather permitting), and tours of the observatory.

Dog obedience class begins Tuesday

Carson City Recreation's Dog Obedience Class begins again on Tuesday and runs through March 29.

Classes are 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Fuji Park. Registration is the first night of the class from 6-6:30 p.m. in the exhibit hall at the park.

Dogs need to be 4 months old or older and current on all shots through rabies. A copy of shot records must be brought to the first class for verification.

Safety event to focus on wildfire prevention

The Nevada Fire Safe Council, Mark Twain Estates Chapter, is sponsoring an event to raise community awareness and understanding of wildfire and the actions necessary to increase community protection.

The wildfire prevention, membership drive and fundraiser event will be

11 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Storey County Fire Station No. 3, 500 Sam Clemens Ave., off Six Mile Canyon Road in Mark Twain, east of Dayton.

There will be free food, beverages, music and raffle prizes.

Participating agencies are Nevada Division of Forestry, University of Nevada, Reno Cooperative Extension, State Farm Insurance, animal rescue, Story County Fire Department and the Storey County Sheriff's Office.

'Happy Senior Tours' heads to Boomtown

The Carson City Senior Center's "Happy Senior Tours" group will travel to Boomtown on March 8.

The bus will load at 7:45 a.m., in the east parking lot of the senior center. It will depart at 8:15 a.m. sharp and return to the center at 4 p.m.

Tuesday dance class to begin in Dayton

The Dayton Senior Center is starting dance classes for fitness.

Jazz Moves and Jazz Robics begin soon at the Dayton Senior Center, 320 Old Dayton Valley Road.

Learn jazz dance technique and combinations in simple format by professional choreographer. Includes an aerobics component for fitness buffs.

Classes will be 4-4:45 p.m. Tuesdays and cost $2 per class. The start date depends on registrations.
