Gilbert (continued from Friday) As Nu-Ma-Ga was making his last vain effort to stem war, an Indian on a pony announced that Williams Station had been burned by nine braves, killing four whites. Nu-Ma-Ga, seeing the uselessness of it said: "There is no more use for council; we must prepare for war, the soldiers will now come here to fight us." 100 YEARS AGO

The Cave Murderer of four sheep men: Details come to light. Not since Medieval times have we seen evidence show such brutality. Their bodies were riddled with bullets, hacked to pieces and thrown into a pile like so many jack rabbits. A cattle-sheep feud is supposed.

70 YEARS AGO

The mission chapel of native stone erected on the campus of the Carson Indian School at Stewart is dedicated by the Women's American Baptist Home Mission Society. Ira Anderson, Carson high school graduate, becomes the youngest student on the coast to pass the examination for flying instructor. He is 20.

50 YEARS AGO

Letter carriers are needed for the Carson City post office, postmaster W. E. (Bill) Dunfield announced today.

The proposed four-lane highway extension through Dayton is on hold waiting for approval from the President's Council on Environmental Protection, which includes historic preservation.

Brewery Arts Center wants to buy the St. Teresa of Avila Church and the nearby Stewart-Nye Home.
