Islanders beat Red Wings in OT

DETROIT (AP) - P.A. Parenteau scored on a power play at 3:57 of overtime to give the New York Islanders a 4-3 victory over the Western Conference-leading Detroit Red Wings on Friday night.

Parenteau put in a one-timer from the left faceoff dot for his ninth goal.

John Tavares had a goal and two assists, Matt Moulson and Jesse Joensuu also scored and Dwayne Roloson made 38 saves for New York. The Islanders, coming off a 2-1 shootout victory over Eastern Conference-leading Pittsburgh on Wednesday night, are 6-1-1 in their last eight games.

Johan Franzen, Valtteri Filppula and Tomas Tatar scored for Detroit. Darren Helm had two assists and Jimmy Howard stopped 18 shots. Tatar tied it at 3 with 9:42 left, scoring his first NHL goal in his first game.

Devils 3, Thrashers 1

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Backup goalie Johan Hedberg made 28 saves and the New Jersey Devils beat the Atlanta Thrashers 3-1 on Friday to snap a six-game losing streak and give Jacques Lemaire his first victory since replacing John MacLean behind the bench.

Lemaire lost his first three games after taking over for the fired MacLean on Dec. 23.

Rookie defenseman Mark Fayne scored his second NHL goal, captain Jamie Langenbrunner had his first in more than a month and Ilya Kovalchuk also scored for New Jersey.

Dustin Byfuglien had his 15th goal for Atlanta. He leads NHL defenseman in goals and points (40).

Canadiens 3, Panthers 2, OT

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Montreal newcomer James Wisniewski scored his second goal of the game 3:41 into overtime to give the Canadiens a comeback victory over Florida.

Wisniewski, acquired from the New York Islanders on Tuesday, scored the winner off a rebound of Michael Cammalleri's shot. The defenseman had a power-play goal in the second period.

Brian Gionta also scored and Alex Auld stopped 20 shots to help the Canadiens, coming off a 4-1 loss at Tampa Bay on Thursday night, overcome a 2-0 deficit to finish 2-5 on their seven-game trip.

Stephen Weiss and Dmitry Kulikov scored for Florida in a 1:45 span early in the second period.

Blue Jackets 4, Senators 3, OT

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Jake Voracek, a recent healthy scratch for his lack of production, scored an unassisted goal off a quirky bounce off the back boards for Columbus.

The puck took a big ricochet and Ottawa's Alex Kovalev and Chris Campoli were unable to corral it. Voracek swooped in and forced the puck between goalie Brian Elliott's leg pads 2:06 into the overtime.

R.J. Umberger, Rick Nash and Samuel Pahlsson scored in regulation for the Blue Jackets, who blew a 3-0 lead but hung on for their third straight win. Steve Mason had 35 saves. Voracek also had an assist.

Ottawa's Daniel Alfredsson forced the extra period, scoring with 1:11 left in regulation. Mike Fisher and Nick Foligno also scored for the Senators.

Blues 4, Coyotes 3

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Alex Steen had a goal and an assist, Jaroslav Halak stopped 30 shots and St. Louis won its fifth straight game, holding off Phoenix.

Brad Boyes, Erik Johnson and Alex Pietrangelo added goals and Barret Jackman had two assists to stake the Blues to a 4-0 lead early in the third period.

Shane Doan had two goals for Phoenix, the first at 6:20 of the third period to end Halak's shutout streak at 129 minutes, 29 seconds. Halak also has shutout streaks this season of 160:08 and 153:03.

Lauri Korpikoski also scored for the Coyotes.

Canucks 4, Stars 1

DALLAS (AP) - Daniel and Henrik Sedin scored power-play goals, Cory Schneider made 44 saves and Vancouver beat Dallas for its fourth straight victory.

Daniel Sedin and Raffi Torres had goals in a 47-second span late in the first period, and Vancouver went on to improve to 13-1-2 in its last 16 games, 6-0-1 on the road during that stretch.

Kevin Bieksa added a power-play goal for the Canucks.

Schneider, 6-0-2 this season, stopping all 18 shots he faced in the second period. Schneider also turned aside James Neal's penalty shot in the second period.

Brenden Morrow had a power-play goal for Dallas.

Ducks 5, Flyers 2

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Jason Blake and defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky each scored two goals and Jonas Hiller made 35 saves for Anaheim.

Bobby Ryan also scored and Teemu Selanne, Saku Koivu, Toni Lydman each had two assists for the Ducks, who began a six-game homestand following a seven-game stretch away from Honda Center.

Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf missed the game because of multiple nasal fractures after getting hit in the forehead by Shane Doan's deflected slap shot Tuesday night at Phoenix.

Andreas Nodl and Jeff Carter scored for Philadelphia.

Predators 4, Wild 1

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Pekka Rinne made 22 saves to help Nashville end its losing streak at five games.

Cody Franson, Patric Hornqvist, Joel Ward and Sergei Kostitsyn scored for Nashville. Struggling offensively, the Predators have scored nine goals in their past six games.

Chuck Kobasew scored late for Minnesota, which lost for the second time in three games and was booed off the ice after the second period and the game. The Wild are 3-6-1 in their last 10 home games.

Flames 3, Avalanche 2

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Tom Kostopoulos, Jarome Iginla and Tim Jackman scored in a 7:30 span in the second period and Calgary won its third straight game.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 19 saves for the Flames, playing their first game since Darryl Sutter resigned as general manager Tuesday. Assistant GM Jay Feaster is serving as acting general manager.

Daniel Winnik and Tomas Fleischmann had third-period goals for the Avalanche, coming off a 4-3 overtime victory in Edmonton on Thursday night. Colorado has lost four of its last five games.
