130 YEARS AGO

C. W. Haight, the young man who escaped the Mono County Sheriff, was charged with robbing bullion from the Standard Mill, is a nephew of the late Gov. Haight of California. It is said that after his arrest he wrote to his relatives in California, who, it is said, wrote to parties in Mono to get him out of the scrape if money would do it. He seems to have solved the problem by "lighting out."

100 YEARS AGO

Tasker Oddie has announced his first appointment, and as strange as it may seem, the person named is a Democrat, no other than Key Pittman, candidate at the late election for United States Senator on the Democratic ticket. Mr. Pittman has been appointed a colonel on the staff of the Governor to be. He can now wear more gold lace on his coat now than he could have if he had been elected to the Senate.

Charlie Chaplin's film, "The Great Dictator," is banned in Argentina at the request of the Italian ambassador there.
