Ed Gibbs was born in Hawthorne and moved to Yerington in 1971. He later graduated from Yerington High School.
At the age of 21 Ed became a sheriff's deputy for Lyon County. In 1987 He went to work for the Nevada Department of Corrections and retired in 1995 as a Supervising Forensic Specialist. He then purchased and ran Junior's Gun Shop in Yerington until 2008.
Ed touched many lives and was dearly loved. He will always be in our hearts. Ed loved camping and fishing with his family and friends, and he loved drinking coffee at the gun shop with his buddies while solving the problems of the world.
Ed is preceded in death by his father Charles "Buz" Gibbs. He is survived by his wife, Julie Gibbs, his son Adam Gibbs and wife Hilary, his daughter Jennifer Houghton and husband Tim Houghton, and the loves of his life, his grandchildren Riley Houghton and Emma Gibbs. He is also survived by his mother Lynne Gibbs, sister Lorrie Miller, and brothers Brian and Mike Gibbs; his mother-in-law Elsie Brower; and numerous family members.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 9 at the Yerington Boys & Girls Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Josh Farler Foundation.
