Nevada Rep. Dean Heller has been named to the health subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee.
The Carson City Republican also will remain on the Select Revenues Measures subcommittee, the Ways and Means tax writing subcommittee.
In a statement Thursday, Heller says his post will give Nevada a stronger voice on health care legislation in Congress.
The health subcommittee oversees programs that provide payments for health care, health delivery systems, and health research. It also deals with bills dealing with health care programs under the Social Security Act.
The tax subcommittee has jurisdiction over taxation, tariffs, Social Security, health care, Medicare, and trade.
