Nevada ethics chief: case will set standard

(AP) - Nevada's ethics chief says a case that will be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court this spring will help set a new standard for ethics laws nationwide.

The high court on Friday agreed to consider the case involving Sparks City Councilman Michael Carrigan.

Last summer, the Nevada Supreme Court ruled that the law the state ethics commission relied on when it censured Carrigan for voting on a casino project was overly broad and unconstitutional.

Ethics commission executive director Caren Jenkins says the issue goes beyond Carrigan's case, and involves every local, state and federal law that contains "catch-all" language.

She says the high court will hear arguments in late April, though a firm date
