A Schurz man was arrested Sunday on an attempted murder charge in the November stabbing of a man he met at a Yerington casino.
Eugene Gerald Wahweah, 67, is being held in the Lyon County Jail on suspicion of felony attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon and grand larceny of a motor vehicle.
According to Lyon County Lt. Bryan Veil, Wahweah befriended Roger John DeSoto after the two met at a casino. A short time later, Wahweah asked DeSoto to give him a ride to his truck.
The two then headed out between 4 and 6 a.m. Nov. 8.
As the ride progressed, Wahweah was allegedly leading DeSoto into the hills.
When DeSoto stopped and said he wasn't willing to drive Wahweah all the way to Smith Valley and to get out, Wahweah allegedly told DeSoto he was going to kill him and proceeded to stab him in the chest several times as Desoto sat in the driver's seat.
DeSoto was able to escape from the vehicle and Wahweah allegedly fled.
A driver on Highway 208 near Wilson Canyon spotted the injured man lying along the road about 6 a.m.
He was treated for his injuries and is recovering.
The vehicle was recovered in Yerington.
Wahweah was arrested on a warrant Sunday. He is being held on $100,000 bail.
