MINDEN (AP) - A woman has been sentenced for letting her 12-year-old son drive her car because she was drunk.

The Record-Courier reports that District Judge Dave Gamble on Tuesday placed Misty McCollister on probation for five years and ordered her to continue alcohol abuse treatment and counseling.

The 35-year-old Gardnerville woman, who earlier pleaded guilty to attempted child abuse or neglect, also was ordered to abstain from alcohol.

McCollister was arrested Oct. 17 near her home after a witness reported seeing a car weaving in and out of its lane and varying its speed.

The witness told sheriff's deputies he passed the vehicle and saw a child in the driver's seat. McCollister admitted to drinking all that weekend.

Her children are now living in Arizona with her father.
