130 YEARS AGO

Jottings: An elegantly dressed lady, while crossing from Rosser's building to the Mint corner, slipped and fell into a mud puddle. It is not known if she uttered any bad words but she thought over the subject a great deal.

Legislative fortune telling: Mrs. Bowers, the Washoe sorceress, will remain in the city during the session. She is able to prognosticate the future and fate of the railroad bill, and her ideas of the future can be depended upon. She can be consulted at the house of Mrs. Stern, corner of Fifth and Division.

120 YEARS AGO

Partially asphyxiated: Miss Jennie Brophy of Virginia was partially asphyxiated at the Con. Cal. & Va. office by a combination of sewer and other gases according to her physician. Hopes are now entertained for her speedy recovery. Enterprise.

70 YEARS AGO

Installation of the officers of the Carson City Knights of Pythias and Pythian Sisters lodges was held at the Odd Fellow Hall. Officers installed: Most excellent chief - Mrs. Mae Noonan; Excellent senior - Mrs. Chester Parker; Excellent Junior - Mrs. O.F. Seidell.

50 YEARS AGO

Birth at Carson Tahoe Hospital: Mayor and Mrs. Turner Houston of Carson City are parents of a boy named Kirk David.

20 YEARS AGO

Editorial: "The word is out. All over the West. The old Mint Building portion of the Nevada State Museum is closed. And the word is having disastrous impact on museum attendance, and probably Carson City tourism as well. Since the Mint Building was closed July 4, 1990, attendance, admission fees and donations have dropped dramatically. Attendance dropped from 17,919 in July 1989 to 4,468 in 1990."

10 YEARS AGO

California declared an electricity emergency as plants fell short of natural gas. State power regulators declared a Stage 3 power alert as electricity reserves are below 1.5 percent - Unusually high demand for natural gas due to cold weather.
