The Douglas boys' basketball team never trailed in a 71-50 romp over league foe Galena Saturday night in Minden.

Douglas led by 28 points heading into the fourth and never let the Grizzlies get closer than 20 down the stretch.

Hunter Myers and Trevor Shaffer shared the team lead in scoring with 10 each, Garrett Getty had nine, Austin Neddenriep had eight, Connor Hughes, Nick Maestretti and Theo Denson each had six and Chris Downs had five in the win.

The Douglas girls' basketball team watched its bid for a potential upset over powerhouse Galena evaporate in the second half Saturday night as the Grizzlies turned a 20-14 halftime deficit into a 47-34 win.

The Tigers had held Galena standout Emily Burns scoreless in the first half and allowed only four first-half field goals, but the Grizzlies found their stride coming out for the second half.

Galena outscored the Tigers 9-3 over the first four minutes of the third quarter to tie the game and followed that with a 12-0 run that put them in front for good.

Douglas got 10 points from Bri Burnside and eight each from Jackie Harper and Carly McCullough.

Taylor Schaller led the Grizzlies with 21 points and Burns put up 17 second-half points in the win.


DAYTON FALLS ON ROAD

The Dayton girls varsity basketball team has six days to recover from illness before returning to action. The team was short-handed because of illness on Saturday during a 72-10 loss at Spring Creek.

Spring Creek's pressure defense forced the Dust Devils into quite a few turnovers.

Taylor Hill led the team with eight points, including two 3-pointers. Amber Brooks scored the team's other basket.

Dayton is 6-11 overall.


FRESHMAN BASKETBALL

DAYTON GIRLS WIN

The Dust Devils bounced back from a loss Friday to pick up a 30-15 win over Spring Creek on Saturday.

Cora Mebius led the team with eight points, 11 rebounds and five steals. Sierra Ingham added four points, two assists and eight steals. Ashley Sandy and Lettie Lynch each added five points.

The Dust Devils, 5-7, return to action at 4 p.m. Friday against Fernley at Fernley Intermediate.


WRESTLING

TWO CARSON JV WRESTLERS FINISH FIRST

Sammy Mercado, at 112 pounds, and Adan Ortega, at 119 pounds, both went 3-0 en route to a first place finish at the 11-team Carson JV tourney on Saturday.

Ortega led a Senator clean sweep at 119 pounds, as Riley Hutchings and Tristian Wadsworth finished second and third respectively. At 135 pounds, Skylar Schilling took fourth place and at 189 pounds, Cody Tucker took third.

The Carson wrestling teams are at Fernley on Saturday.
