Mother of 2 arrested after drug search

A 24-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday night after deputies found meth in her garage.

Deborah Duffy was arrested at 10:18 p.m. after her mother allowed a special enforcement team to search their home. During the search deputies found five small plastic bags containing a white residue, including one that contained a white crystal-like substance, inside a small trash can next to the door to enter the home.

Tests performed on site showed the substance to be methamphetamine. Deputies also confiscated a small black scale and several unused small plastic bags.

When Duffy arrived home while the search was in progress, deputies confronted her about the drugs. She allegedly told them she did not know the bags were in her trash can and that she prefers marijuana, not meth.

When asked if she had any marijuana, Duffy allegedly pulled a small bag of pot out of her pocket and gave it to a deputy.

The mother told deputies that Duffy's two children, ages 3 and 4, live at the home and have access to the garage, adding she was concerned about their safety.

Duffy was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a felony, two counts of abuse or neglect of a child, a gross misdemeanor, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Bail was set at $9,364.
