On Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, our Lord Jesus gathered his servant, Laura "Jean" Amos, into his loving arms and brought her safely to her heavenly home.

Jean was born Dec. 27, 1923 in Los Angeles. She wed Edward Amos in 1940, a marriage that continued until his death in 1995. They moved to Carson City in 1981.

She was a gifted artist who loved her community and its people. Her paintings were familiar to them and though she was frustrated when it was no longer physically possible to practice her art, she continued to retouch her sketches, often donating them to local charities.

Her zest for living spilled into the lives of all who knew her. She taught her grandchildren life skills, was actively involved in social groups such as cards and mahjong, and was always dressed to the nines. Her sense of propriety was a major influence on those around her but did not inhibit her good humor, generosity and compassion, making her a very easy person to love - even by the neighborhood dogs!

Exercising her sharp, inquisitive mind was an enjoyable priority for Jean who did so through a variety of puzzles, meeting new people and, ever the creative artist, even finding pictures in clouds.

Jean remained a faithful Christian and clung to the promise of heaven's joy: "Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst ... and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes," (Rev 7:16-17). May she now rest in peace.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband Edward Amos and brother Lee Perrin. She is survived by daughter Pauline (Fred) Parker; son David (Gloria) Amos; grandchildren Edward Parker, Sandra (Ben) Lippert, Tricia Parker, Christine (George) Linial; great-grandchildren Theresa Williams and Derrick Jackson.

A celebration of her life will be noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at her home.

In place of flowers, please donate in her name to the Carson City Sheriff's Reserve Santa Program. FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for arrangements.
