Eagle Valley Middle School's eighth-grade volleyball team improved to 5-0 with a 25-11 and 25-23 win over Carson Middle School and a 25-19 and 27-25 win over Carson Valley Middle School.
Abbey Dudley served up four aces, while Lindsay Hettrick added two aces, on block and one kill in the win over Carson Middle School. Michelle Perry finished with two blocks and two digs while Chantel Torres added an ace and two digs.
In the win over Carson Valley, Hettrick led the way with three kills, one ace and three digs. Perry finished with two kills and five digs with Torres contributing two aces.

Carson Middle School's seventh-grade volleyball team knocked off Eagle Valley (25-23, 16-25 and 15-13) and Pa Wa Lu (22-25, 25-17 and 15-13) last week.
Bailey Allen led the way with a combined nine aces and four assists, Allison Kibbe added eight aces and two assists, Liz Heinz contributed four aces and four kills, Lorena Gomez finished with a kill and two digs, Lindy Lehman served two aces and added a dig and Katie Matuska finished with two aces and two kills.

The Knights of Columbus #4781 held its annual Free Throw Championship last weekend at Carson Middle School.
The 10-year-old champs were Hannah Hodorowicz and Cole Salacies. The 11-year-old winners were Laura Merlin and Terrance Allen. The 12-year-old champs are AnnJi Hodorowicz and Henry Loos. The 13-year-old winner was Julian Alvarado, who edged Cameron Radtke in a tie-breaker. The 14-year-old winners were Hannah Anderson and Trevor Sollberger.
Winners advance to the District event in Gardnerville on Feb. 12.

All Work & No Play leads the Comstock Division of the Carson City chapter of the American Poolplayers Association with 243 points.
Rack Busters is second at 212.
Alex Gutierrez of Dean's Machine leads the 6-9 tier with 13 points, while Casey Richards of All Work and Chris Wood of Rattlers are tied for second with 10 points. Jeff Cordova of All Work leads the 4-5 tier with 13 points, three ahead of teammate Timothy Kane. Greg Munoz of Tied & Soldiered leads the 1-3 tier with 11, two ahead of teammate Caren Adkins.
Unintentional Defense has an early one-point lead over three other teams in the Mosconi Division.
Robert Haddix of Unintentional Defense leads the 6-7 tier with six points, two ahead of Kenneth Gabbard. Tim Kane of Rack Fink leads the 4-5 tier with seven points, one ahead of Jerry's Kids' Larry Knutson. Kari Nye of Unintentional Defense and Britton Armstrong of AltF4 lead the 2-3 tier with five points apiece.
In the Black Widow Division, Scratch Masters leads with six points, while Rack Busters is a point behind.
Don Allred of Rack Busters has the early lead in the 6-7 tier with five points, two ahead of Juan Pina from Twisted Stix With Attitudes. Richard Baker of Scratch Masters leads the 4-5 tier with six pints, while teammate Roger Alther is two points behind. Eric Dereng of Schmitt House and Daniel Welter of Rack Busters are tied for the 2-3 tier lead with four points apiece.
Fly fishing club
holds tying class
The Carson Fly Fishing Club is beginning a Basic Fly Tying Class on February 8, 11, 14, 17, 22, and 24 at 7 p.m. in the Ormsby Room, located at the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
The purpose of the class is to learn basic techniques of tying different flies. No experience necessary. The flies for this class will be: Green Weenie, Zonker, Chamois Nymph, Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear, Grey Hackle Yellow, and Goddard Caddis.
This will be the 12th year that the Carson Fly Fishing Club has presented this class free to the public.

First Tee classes

Registration is under way for junior golf and life skills programs with The First Tee of Northern Nevada.
Class sessions begin March 28th and new classes are offered each month through October. Classes are available at 10 area golf courses in Reno, Sparks, Carson City and Dayton.
Cost is $80 per session, and each session includes 6-to-8 lessons. Financial assistance is available, easy to apply for and completely confidential. Golf equipment is provided for participants who do not have their own clubs.
Registration can be completed online at www.tftnn.org. Class schedule and registration forms may also be downloaded from the website or may be requested by calling 775-851-2332. Classes are available for beginner to advanced youth golfers ages 7-18 years old.
Empire Ranch seeks senior golfers
Applications are now available for the 2011 Empire Ranch Senior Men's Golf Club season.
The season starts on March 9, and continues with tournaments usually on Wednesday morning though October 26. There are 27 tournaments at Empire Ranch and nine at other area courses.
All tournaments are handicapped and flighted so that everyone has an excellent chance to win prize money. All tournaments are shotgun starts so you don't have to worry about start times. There are also a variety of tournament types, such as individual stroke play, scrambles, Stableford, better ball, best ball and the club championship.
The membership fee is $40, which includes your NNGA membership. A current handicap is not necessary but you must be at least 60 years of age to join. Membership is limited so submit your application early. Call 775-885-2100 for further information.
