LAS VEGAS (AP) - Police say a city councilwoman from Nevada found dead with her husband fatally shot him about an hour before calling 911 to report that she was going to kill herself.

The Las Vegas Sun reported Wednesday that the bodies of Donna Fairchild and Bill Fairchild were found before dawn Tuesday at their home in Mesquite, about 80 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

Donna Fairchild faced removal as the city's delegate to a regional business organization at a council meeting scheduled for the night of her death.

Police said she left a note and a box for her mother at a friend's house before the early morning murder-suicide.

Donna and Bill Fairchild had been married for 21 years. They moved to Mesquite in 1999 after they retired from the Denver Police Department.
