AUBURN, Calif. - Carson High's wrestling team compiled a 2-3 record at the Placer Duals on Saturday.

Carson lost 39-33 to Woodcreek and followed that up with a 55-19 loss to Chico, one of the top teams in California. Carson blew out Rosemont 51-24 and then lost a 40-36 thriller to Rocklin. The Senators closed out the day with a 54-23 win over Nevada Union.

Carson had to take forfeits at 152, 215 and heavyweight throughout the day, which was costly against Woodcreek and Rocklin.

"Against Woodcreek we wrestled well," coach Tim McCarthy said. "We should have win the Rocklin match. If we wrestled them 10 times, we'd win nine. The kids were fired up against Nevada Union and wrestled well.

"Our lower weights were solid. The other kids in the program are getting better."

Kyle Sharp (103), Patrick Craugh (112) and Niko Garcia (160) all went 5-0 on the day. Cole McCarthy (125) went 4-1, his only loss was a second-round pin against the defending state champ from California. Nick Lani (119) also went 4-1. Ty Welch (130) and Jordan Luhrs (140) both went 3-2.

Cody Cunningham (145) went 2-3, while Andrew Cunningham (130), Aaron Lopez (171) and Jon Ampudia (189) all went 1-4.

Carson visits Douglas at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
