Longtime Carson City resident, Jim Owen, departed on July 5, 2011, due to failing health. Jim was born April 17, 1931, in the small town of Bulls Gap, Tenn., but moved west as a youngster and fell in love with Nevada. He was an owner and operator of Desert Sheet Metal in Carson for many years. Jim loved fishing for mackinaw at Tahoe, hiking, bicycling, auto racing and working at his trade. He was proud to be a private pilot in his 50s. In later years he became an avid NASCAR fan.
He will be forever missed by his wife Ellie and his beloved pets Emmett and Pogonip. He is survived by his son Gary of Carson City, daughter Shari Lewis of Chico, sister Lenore Byrnes of Lehi, Utah, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Don. At his request, there will be no services. Burial will be held at the Veteran's Cemetery in Fernley. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to your favorite animal charity.
