A horse's sagacity: As the morning express was nearing Empire, a large cottonwood tree was blown across the track, and but for the sagacity of Commissioner Morris' horse, a terrible disaster would have occurred on the V & T. It appears the horse saw the tree across the track and the train rounding the curve. He was tied to a post, but breaking away he rushed up to a grocery store and dipping his tail in a barrel of red roof paint, rushed back and elevating the red danger signal in air flagged the train. The passengers realized what had occurred and there was a general desire to show some appreciation for the animal's heroic act and a contribution was taken up to furnish the beast extra fodder for the Summer.
