Errors spoil solid pitching for Blue Jays

The Carson Blue Jays got an outstanding effort from Jace Zampirro but lost 4-1 to the Pocatello Rebels during Thursday's Idaho Wood Bat Tournament.

Zampiro, a sophomore-to-be, pitched a complete game four hitter allowing only one earned run. The Blue Jays made three errors that cost them.

"(Zampirro) was good all game," coach Cody Farnworth said. "I was impressed with how he performed."

The Blue Jays out hit the Rebels, a team made up off mostly college players, 5-4.

Nick Domitrovich was 2-for-3 to lead Carson. Brock Pradere, Tyler Valley and Dion Copoulos all collected hits.

Carson was scheduled to play a doubleheader but had a game rained out.

They will play two games today, at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.


Bullets lose thriller

to Chico in 12

CHICO, Calif. - The Chico Stix knocked off the Nevada Bullets 6-5 in 12 innings in the first game of their Far West League doubleheader Thursday night.

The teams were tied at

3 in the ninth when darkness halted play. The teams will finish the game today at noon.

The Bullets grabbed a 5-1 lead in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs. Connor Eppard, Brooks Klein, Colby Blueberg and Chris Stocker all had hits in the big inning.

Chico closed to 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth and then tied it in the bottom of the ninth. The game stayed tied until the 12th.

Darrin Wiltgen threw 5.1 innings, leaving the game with the lead. Zac Stanford gave up the winning run.

Blueberg led the hitting with three, while Stocker added two. Klein, Eppard and Beau Day all had one hit.

In the second game, Andrew Woeck threw 6.2 innings and fanned eight while giving up eight hits. He had been sidelined with tendinitis and this was his first start back.
