John Douglas Cawley

17 January 1925 -- 7 July 2011

John was born Jan. 17, 1925, in Los Angeles to John W. Cawley and Ellaree Cawley. During World War II he was an ensign in the U.S. Navy serving as a pilot. He loved to fly. After the war, he graduated from USC with a Masters Degree in Economics. He worked for Bank of America retiring as a vice president in the commercial loan department. During his tenure at the bank, he had the opportunity to work in Mexico City, Mexico and Sydney, Australia.

Upon retiring, John and his wife of 54 years, LaVonne, moved to Carson City. John was active at the senior center, serving on the advisory council. He also volunteered with administering their bunco game, which he enjoyed playing. Among his many hobbies were gardening, reading, and playing video poker at the Carson Nugget.

John had a great sense of humor and was a devoted husband, father, and friend. Also, he dearly loved his mother-in-law, Nina Loney (deceased). John was preceded in death by his parents, brother Cecil, and son Mark. His legacy continues with LaVonne, sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Josefina, and Martin and Heidi; daughter and son-in-law Mary and Paul Sackman; a total of nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Capital Cremations is handling the arrangements. Per John's request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, a donation should be made to St. Mary's Hospice or a charity of your choice.
