Block party planned on Telegraph
Merchants on Telegraph Street are inviting folks to a Rockin' Block Party 3-9 p.m. today.
The outdoor event - on both sides of the highway - will feature beer trucks, a portable bar and the bands Bootleggers, Bad Intent and N-Denial.
The party is hosted by The Blue Bull, Mo & Sluggo's and Kim Lee Sushi, and Lifted Cafe will abe catering.

AAA and Toyota/Scion hosting show and shine
On Saturday, July 16, the Carson City AAA office and Dick Campagni's Carson City Toyota/Scion Dealership will co-host a classic car show and shine event. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carson City Toyota Dealership, 3659 S. Carson St. Barbecue and frozen yogurt will be available for purchase from Sierra Joe's and Mmmmm Yogurt. All classic car cruisers are welcome to participate; space is limited to the first 80 entrants. Entry fee is $25 and proceeds will benefit local charities. Carson City Grocery Outlet helps feed hungry
Carson City Grocery Outlet has announced the Independence from Hunger Campaign, a monthlong effort during July that will bring together Carson City Grocery Outlet and its customers to help feed people in Carson City who are facing hunger and dealing with food insecurity.
Customers can donate food and cash to support the local Friends in Service Helping Food Bank.
Carson City Grocery Outlet has made it simple to join the cause with these easy options for customers:
• Look for specially marked food items. These are items that F.I.S.H. currently needs. Purchase those items and place them in the collection bin at the front of the store.
• Tell a Grocery Outlet cashier that you'd like to make a cash donation at the register. Donations will go directly to F.I.S.H. Food Bank.
• Pick up information at Carson City Grocery Outlet about hunger, food insecurity and local/national resources for people in need. Be informed and willing to help.

Volunteers sought for Historic Resources Commission
The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Historic Resources Commission. There are two positions available, one of which is in the building construction professional category.
The second position available is in one of the following categories: architect or design professional, building construction professional, archeology, anthropology, history professional or a property owner who resides within the district.
The Historic Resources Commission reviews and makes decisions regarding projects in the Carson City Historic District and/or recommendations to the Regional Planning Commission and/or Board of Supervisors regarding matters relating to Carson City historic resources.
The term of the Building Construction Professional will expire July 2013. The other term will expire February 2015. Applicants should be aware that a minimum commitment of up to 10 hours every other month is expected. All members serve without compensation. Applicants must be residents of Carson City and registered voters.

Membership drive to be held this weekend
The VFW Post #8583 and Ladies Auxiliary Membership Drive will be from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday through Monday at Raleys, Smith's and Scolaris.
Anyone who is a veteran of the U.S. armed Forces and has ever served overseas in a combat zone, served at any time in Korea or have ever received Imminent Danger/Hostile Fire Pay is are eligible to become a member of the local VFW Post #8583 where they can enjoy the benefits of being a member and helping other veterans.
Those eligible to become a member of the Ladies Auxiliaryinclude wives, widows, mothers, foster- and stepmothers who have performed the duties of parent, grandmother, daughter, granddaughter), foster and stepdaughters who attained that status before age 16 and for whom the duties of parent were performed; and , sisters, half sisters, foster and stepsisters who attained that status before age 16 are eligible to become a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.

USDA Rural Development holds stakeholder meetings
USDA Rural Development Nevada will hold a stakeholder outreach meeting from 10 a.m.-noon Monday at video-teleconference locations around the state to discuss rural development priorities for President Barack Obama's 2013 budget and 2012 Farm Bill.
The public is invited. This meeting is important because it will provide valuable input to USDA Rural Development staff to develop priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.
The public is invited to offer insights on how Rural Development can enhance its program administration and delivery to ensure that rural communities are able to access the critical programs and resources that Rural Development has to offer.

Democratic women to host family barbecue
The Carson City Democratic Women's Club and Central Committee are having a Family BBQ and Carnival, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. July 23 at Ross Gold Park, E. Overland St. in South Carson City.
There will be lots of raffle prizes as well as prizes for games and other contests. There is no host wine and beer.
Cost is $15 general and $5 for children uner 12 and includes picnic food and soft drink, a ticket for the door prize and a yellow ducky. Don't miss the chance to have your ducky drawn for a special prize.
The campaign season is starting and candidates will be there as guest speakers. All Democrats are welcome. Registration forms will be available.
