Officials to set number of building permits

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is scheduled to set the number of residential building permits for 2012 and 2013 when it meets Thursday.

The board is required annually to establish the number of permits that will be available for the following calendar year. This historically has been based on a maximum growth rate of 3 percent.

Supervisors also are set to establish a maximum average daily water usage for commercial and industrial building permits. The threshold historically has been 7,500 gallons per day, above which Growth Management Commission approval is required.

Other items scheduled for discussion or action Thursday are:

• The annual monitoring report for the Horsecreek Ranch Conservation Easement.

• Public Works waterline project.

• A Federal Aviation Authority grant for the Carson City Airport of about $1.2 million to complete construction of Taxiway D north of the runway on the west side of the airport.

• Extension of an agreement through June 30, 2012, between Carson City and the Brewery Arts Center for continued operation of community access television stations.

• An annual report from the assessor.

• A $3.5 million bid for installing 5,500 feet of new 24-inch water line from the intersection of Robinson Street and Saliman Road to the intersection of Butti Way and Airport Road.

• A $516,000 bid for the Carson City Corporate Yard salt/cinder building and photovoltaic system.

Other meetings this week:

The Carson City Audit Committee meets at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Sierra Room of the community center to determine the future role of the audit committee. The board may also take action on the future employment status of the internal audit employee or contractor, for which $54,000 has been appropriated.

The Carson City Historic Resources Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room of the community center. Commissioners are set to discuss or take action on:

• A proposed nomination of Carson City's historic district to the National Register of Historic Places.

• A request to demolish a single-family residence, carriage house and shed to build an eight-unit apartment complex at 812 N. Division St.

• A request to reroof a single-family dwelling and replace existing shed dormers with gabled dormers at 312 Mountain St.

• A request to replace asbestos shingles on the siding of a house with similar siding and wainscoting on a residence used as an office at 913 N. Nevada St.

• An update on the Historic Preservation Fund grant.
