Garfield's trout: Doc Benton and Hank Monk brought a 10 pound trout down from the lake to be sent to President Garfield. Monk had planned to write a card and tie it to the head of the trout and Doc Benton's note would be at the end. It was agreed that it would be sent as a gift from the people of Nevada. When they returned from their note writing however, a cat was caught in the act of lugging the fish through a hole in the stable which they were unable to dislodge. Monk says that trout are probably not good for convalescing Presidents anyway.
