A mother bear and her twin cubs were released into the wilderness Monday afternoon after being captured on West Washington Street.
Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Chris Healy said a 35-pound cub was found Monday morning in a trap set out in the 2300 block of West Washington Street. NDOW biologists then found the cub's sibling and mother nearby. All three were tranquilized and taken from the area, said Healy.
He said the 150-pound, 11-year-old mother bear had been captured once before -- seven years ago
"It's just one of those things. The bears are just out there trying to make a living," said Healy.
Biologist Carl Lackey released the trio Monday afternoon near the Hobart Reservoir.
"This was an actual best-case result for these bears, that we were able to tranquilize them, extricate them from civilization and release them into the wild," said Healy.
