Medical predictions: The shooting of President (Garfield) - Every paper has contained a communication on the subject of the President's wound. His death has been predicted every day.

Good for Frank Bell: Bell retired as superintendent of the Western Union office, and it was immediately proposed to raise a contribution and present Mr. Bell with a testimonial, the money raised from the telegraph operators of Nevada. Mr. Bell on hearing of the scheme notified the originators of the scheme that he did not desire any such contributions. No man holding a lucrative position should receive gifts from employees.

120 YEARS AGO

Ho! for Steamboat: The following is the program for Sunday's sport at Steamboat - running and trotting races, and a third game of baseball between the Emporiums of Carson and Comstocks of Virginia. The train leaves Carson at 9:45 a.m. and returns at 6:30 p.m. ... round trip ticket $1.

Robert Laxalt led the Carson softball league in batting with a percentage of .650. Other hitters in the league were Nelson Glover with .611 and Robert Shriver with .600.
