Learn an easy recipe for raspberry jam

The Downtown 3rd & Curry Streets Farmers Market features a class on making a quick and easy raspberry jam at 10 a.m. today.

Look for Lucky Me Farms roasting peppers from Holley Farms at the market and remember to brings those knives and get them sharpened.

The Silverwing Band will supply the music for the market and there's always free water and tables in the shade.

And vote for the 3rd & Curry St. Farmers Market in America's Favorite Farmers Market contest and get a chance to win a peach cobbler.

Lavendar seminar today

Guest speaker Mike Campie, owner for Campies Lavender Patch, will present "All About Lavender," 9:30 a.m. today at Greenhouse Garden Center.

Campie is a local lavender grower who has developed some newer strains of lavender that perform very well in our Northern Nevada climate. He will also talk about making essential oil and soaps from lavender.

Next week, the garden center will host a free workshop, "Let's Talk About Preserving Tomatoes," with Becky, owner of Beck's Pantry in Minden, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Aug. 3. The class is free, however, reservations are required since class size is limited. To find out more about Beck's Pantry visit www.beckspantry.com.
