Evacuations lifted from wildfire in Geiger Grade area

An evacuation order was lifted at

10 p.m. Saturday for home owners near Geiger Grade (Nevada State Route 341) in Storey County after a wildfire burned more than 500 acres, according to Mark Struble information officer with Sierra Front.

The fire, which started at 4 p.m. Saturday, threatened at least three structures early in the day. However, fire crews - including seven air tankers more than 150 personnel and two helicopters - were able to keep the fire away from the structures.

As of Saturday night, there was no estimate of containment or control.

The cause was under investigation.

Numerous thunderstorms rolled through the area early Saturday evening, however no measurable precipitation was received in the area of the fire.

Earlier in the day, crews reported they had the upper hand on about a dozen wildfires in western Nevada that were sparked by lightning Friday night.

But firefighters are still battling a 1,000-plus-acre wildfire near Red Rock in Washoe County that has no estimated containment time.

A 3,500-plus-acre wildfire about eight miles northeast of Wadsworth was about 70 percent contained.
