130 YEARS AGO

Last evening representatives of the Masonic and Odd Fellows Associations completed arrangements to supply water to the cemetery. It is proposed to lay 7,000 feet of iron pipe and 8,000 feet of wooden pipe.

100 YEARS AGO

Mrs. James Yerington had a close call with death recently on the Carson River. While spending the summer at the smelter, a raft was built. Mrs. Yerington and Mme. Barry went out and were quickly caught in the rapids. Mrs. Yerington luckily was rescued. She wishes never to go through that again.

70 YEARS AGO

Carson nearly got to claim an international champion. Earl Corbett, competing in the Pacific International Trap Association, scored 197 out of a possible 200 "birds" in two days of class match shooting.

50 YEARS AGO

Charges of violating Nevada's "Open Meeting" law today were dismissed by Gov. Grant Sawyer against the state Highway Board. Members of the board were arrested following a complaint by a reporter that he was barred from a meeting in Reno.

20 YEARS AGO

Journalism conflicts between editors, and other editors are often concluded with a gunfight. One of the most serious editorial disputes occurred in Carson City on March 1874 between the Appeal temporary editor David R. Sessions and R.R. "Deacon" Parkinson, editor of the Nevada Tribune.

10 YEARS AGO

Witnesses to a fatal accident on Lake Tahoe Highway 28 waited in frustration as 911 calls are routed to the Sacramento police.
