Lecture to address fatty liver disease

The Women's Health Institute will host the lecture "Fatty Liver - Here's the Skinny," from 5:30-6:30 p.m., June 14.

Dr. Hong Goa, gastroenterologist, will address the basics behing fatty liver disease and answer the questions: What's a fatty liver? How does it affect me? Do I have one?

Swim for diabetes

Come on out for a day of open swimming at The Carson City Aquatic Facility 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 18.

The diabetes-awareness event is sponsored by "WE CAN" (Way's to Enhance Children's Activity and Nutrition).

Both indoor and outdoor pool will be open and there will be refreshments, giveaways, and games for the kids and free raffle prizes and information for the adults.

Cost is $5 at the door. The aquatic facility is located at 841 N. Roop St. (behind the Community Center in Mills Park).

Association of widowed is planning summer activities

The South Lake Tahoe Widowed Persons Association has begun their summer program schedule, which includes weekly picnics at Kiva Picnic Area, where participants will bring their own barbecue choice and the club will provide briquettes.

Other monthly activities are: pizza night, mystery dinner, chat and chew, breakfast and the general meeting and potluck held at Tahoe Verde Clubhouse. Other events in the making are the Genoa Concert, Dixie Trip, Donner Museum, Apple Hill, Sutters Creek, concerts at the Valhalla Boat House, Balloon Races in Reno, hiking and biking, and many more are on the agenda.

Activities are an important part of the WPAC.

DivorceCare planning weekly meetings

DivorceCare, a help seminar and support group for people experiencing divorce and/or separation, or even considering divorce, will be on Tuesday evenings beginning June 14 and continuing for 13 weeks.

DivorceCare features nationally recognized experts on divorce and recovery topics. Seminar sessions include "Facing My Anger," "Facing my Loneliness," "Depression," "New Relationships," "Kid Care," and "Forgiveness."

"We understand how deeply people and families are hurt by divorce," said Robin Burton, organizer of the group. The support group "is a place where many people have found that they can begin putting their lives back together again."

DivorceCare will meet in the home of Danny and Robin Burton in Gardnerville.
