Fatal head-on collision in south Gardnerville

Rescue personnel responded to a fatal head-on collision 11:14 a.m. today at Highway 395 and Wiseman Lane in south Gardnerville involving a single-trailer semi-truck and a white Ford pick-up towing a travel-trailer with California plates.

The pick-up and the semi-truck suffered major damage. A fuel leak was reported in the latter. At least one person was killed in the wreck, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol website. The condition of other victims has not been released.

Care Flight initially was called to the scene but later canceled. Both lanes of the highway were blocked by the wreckage. Traffic was diverted around the wreckage, but, as of noon, motorists were still being advised to avoid the area.

East Fork responded to the scene, while DCSO handled traffic. Authorities documented the wreckage for further investigation.
