Bullets split DH

with Neptune

ALAMEDA - Andrew Woeck pitched six strong innings and C.J. Maldanado went 5-for-5 and drove in four runs to lead the Nevada Bullets to a 9-2 win over the Neptune Pearl in a Far West Summer Collegiate game at Willie Stargell Field.

In the nightcap, the Pearl snapped a 6-all tie in the bottom of the six with a run off WNC pitcher Tyler Spencer en route to a 7-6 seven-inning win and a split of the doubleheader.

Woeck worked the first six, allowing two runs and three hits while striking out eight. Chris Prokupak worked a scoreless seventh and Colby Blueberg worked two scoreless innings.

It was a 5-2 game until the seventh when the Bullets scored four times. Maldanado contributed a two-run double and Craig Merideth had a two-run single.

Zach Hendrix went 4-for-6 and Sean Brown went 2-for-2. Beau Day went 1-for-4.

In the second game, both teams scored four in the second, and then the Pearl went ahead 6-4 with two runs off reliever Darin Wiltgen. The Bullets tied it up at 6 in the top of the sixth on Day's monster two-run homer.

That set the stage for the seventh when Spencer, who was throwing in the low 90s, gave up a couple of bloop hits.

"We had a good chance to win it," said Bullets manager Jim Blueberg. "It got away from us at the end. They were loaded with D-1 players."

The Bullets play the Pearl again today at 5 p.m.

Pena leads Aces

RENO - Wily Mo Pena continued his torrid offensive pace, torching Tucson for four hits - including a home run and two doubles - and five RBIs Wednesday night, to lift the Reno Aces to a 9-2 victory over the Padres at Aces Ballpark.

Tucson and first-place Reno close out the series at 7:05 p.m. today.
