Would there be others in this profession that valued the truth more than honest old John McClatchy. Since this was published, we learn that he had 70 pounds on ice at the Ormsby House and lied about his catch, fearing we might want one of the fish. Never believed much in a Bee man anyhow.
100 YEARS AGO
The first camp of convicts has been established at Lake View. The convicts will build a 20 foot wide road to Reno made from gravel mined at the quarry near the camp. The road will be made adequate for horses and automobiles, because the auto is here to stay.
70 YEARS AGO
Thomas J. D. Salter, department commander of the Nevada American Legion today indicated the Legion is giving serious consideration to combating "saboteurs" who desecrated cemeteries in Nevada on Memorial Day. He noted a series of acts which occurred almost simultaneously in wide-separated parts of Nevada directed at war veterans.
50 YEARS AGO
The State Archaeologist, Dr. Richard Shutler Jr., has located several archaeological sites in central Nevada that contain pottery and stone tools. The areas were in Upper Spring Valley, and Upper Meadow Valley.
20 YEARS AGO
The director of the state Environmental Protection Division signed the first permit needed by the U.S. Energy Dept. to begin exploration work at Yucca Mountain.
10 YEARS AGO
About 50 active military, veteran and civilians gathered at the Nevada State Veteran's Memorial on Thursday to honor the U.S. Flag and celebrate the 226th birthday of the U.S. Army.
