For the eighth year, the Carson City Sheriff's motor officers are hosting a police competition for West Coast law enforcement agencies.
The Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge begins today at 8 a.m. in Mills Park and runs through 5 p.m. Saturday.
According to Deputy Sal Acosta, motor officers from the region will compete in a series of courses - speed, obstacle, slow ride, Last Man Standing and a team event.
"Law enforcement officers from all over will be training on some of the most extreme course patterns to date, making for an exciting, challenging and fun event for officers, families and spectators," he said.
Friday officers will train on the courses set up at Mills Park with competition beginning Saturday.
The public is invited to attend both days.
Acosta said officers will be on their department-issued motorcycles which include Honda, Victory, Kawasaki and Harley-Davidson. Carson City officers ride Harley-Davidsons.
There also will be food and equipment vendors. Awards will be given to the best riders.
The event is a training exercise and participating officers earn points toward their annual certification.
Money raised from the entrance fees will be donated to a local charity, said Acosta. He said in the last few years the money has been given to the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada.
