130 YEARS AGO

The comet can now be seen above the horizon about 10 o'clock, where it remains for an hour, and returns about two. Yesterday the Appeal secured a reliable astronomical reporter in the person of Mr. Friend, but the gentleman overslept.

100 YEARS AGO

There is a valley along the Carson River from Empire to the Mexican Dam which is undergoing a change that half the population of this valley fails to realize. Land that a few years ago was regarded only fit for sheep grazing is now covered with grain, alfalfa and garden truck. For many years this land was held in order to bring water to the Mexican Mill Company until the flood of 1907 when the big dam was washed out.

70 YEARS AGO

The Interstate Commerce Commission authorizes S. C. Bigelow, receiver of the Virginia & Truckee Railway to abandon the 21 miles of branch line between Carson City and Virginia City.

50 YEARS AGO

The plight of Carson City's "prisoner's wives" was brought before the Lions today. Clark J. Guild, formerly a district judge and also associated with the Salvation Army stated that with the closing of the local clothing bank that there wasn't even clothing available for the needy.

20 YEARS AGO

The nightmare continues for Carl and Terri Probyn as they look for clues in the disappearance of their 11-year old child Jaycee Lee Dugard.

10 YEARS AGO

Angelo and Mary DeFelice love their home on King Street. Ever since the DeFelice's have been in the home some 13 years ago, they've opened the Victorian for the Hidden Garden Tour.
