I am bitterly disappointed, sickened, and feel betrayed after learning that our governor signed AB571 into law.
This travesty of a bill rolls back the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act. The Act will be weakened immediately and allow smoking back into bar areas within restaurants.
More than ever, the fact that back-door politics can be pushed through has screamed to me that the people really don't have a say in things that really matter. Oh yes, we can try through letters to the editor, face-to-face talks with legislators, and receive answers fraught with psycho-babble and empty promises. In the end, the money wins, the legislators cave, and the workers lose who keep the bars and casinos running.
One of my colleagues said, "The legislators I met with kept telling me that people didn't have to go to casinos where smoking was allowed - they gave absolutely no thought whatsoever to the people who work in these establishments. In this economy with the unemployment rate so high in Nevada, where, pray tell, do they think these people are going to get a job?" This is shameful.
There is a video produced by the American Non Smoker's Rights Foundation that perfectly illustrates the plight of non-smoking workers: http://youtu.be/DronlmOPbMA.
I am fearful that the next legislative session will bring further erosion to the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act. Let's not let that happen.

Recent airport open
house was a success
The Carson City Airport would like to thank everyone who came to our annual open house to enjoy the day with us. We had one of the most successful open house events in the history of the airport with an estimated 3,000 people enjoying the performances, displays and activities.
We are already thinking of expanding the Carson City open house next year in order to make it even better. There are so many vendors, exhibitors and supporters to thank and they will thanked individually for their participation.
The open house is a program designed to open our doors to the community to show everyone what the Carson City Airport offers to Carson City.
CCA is an economic engine for Carson City and our marketing plan hopes to draw in more business that will expand the tax base and create more jobs.

Shouldn't American citizens come first?
I wanted to take this time to express my disgust with Nevada's politicians. During the recent session, it seemed that the subject of how someone was recognized for their sexual presentation was more important than the current illegal immigrant situation Nevada is facing.
During a conversation with a homeless veteran, I discovered it takes up to one year for him to receive social service.
But Nevada's welfare program offers emergency services including food stamps for illegal immigrants and their families. Correct me if I am wrong, but should not Americans be taken care of first?
Do any of Nevada officials have a pair between them to address and correct the illegal immigrants situation, draining both federal and state resources?
Does it take a woman governor in Arizona to set precedence of how other states should handle this situation? Our current governor, I feel, is a man who respects the law, and will do the correct thing, if allowed, for Nevada.
Illegal Immigration is not a nationality or race. It's about knowingly breaking America's laws and knowingly applying for, and receiving, social benefits meant for Americans.
Obamacare, I feel, is falsely being promoted for all Americans to receive health care I feel will only benefit health care providers by recuperating the millions lost due to illegals and others receiving care without paying.
I, for one, am tired of supporting the rest of the world, while our country and state are quickly obtaining, third-world status. Remember that charity begins at home.
