COMMUNITY SPORTS ROUNDUP: CHS football boosters announce dinner date

The Carson High football boosters are gearing up for their annual Senator Football Kickoff Dinner on Aug.13.

Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. and hosted by Mo & Sluggos on Curry St. between Telegraph and Spear streets. The dinner will consist of the announcement of new Hall of Fame members, dinner, music, silent auction, raffle prizes and a 32-inch flat screen TV as a door prize.

In addition, the booster club will be raffling off a Kawasaki Teryx 750 FI 4X4. Ticket sales for this item will start on July 1 and run through the end of the football season, including the playoffs if the team makes it. The drawing will take place after the season.

Tigersharks fare well in Bishop meet

Kaly Branco and Brett Kolb were high point winners in their respective age groups at the Bishop Invitational over the weekend.

Branco, swimming in the 11-year-old division, tallied 50 points. Kolb, swimming in the 11-year-old boys division, had 52 points.

Brennan Pott (10, boys) was fifth with 15, Reece Canfield (11, boys) was second with 44, Kelsey Bradley (12, girls) was third with 44, Stella Carroll (12, girls) was sixth with 19, Gillian Mandell (10, girls) was fifth with 21 points, Sami Kolb (6, girls) was third with 16 points and A.J. Gutierrez (10, boys) was second overall.

Branco, who won the 200 free and 50 free, dropped a second in the 500 free and a second in the 50 breast. Bradley dropped 70 seconds in the 400 IM, one second in the 50 breast and 14 seconds in the 100 butterfly. Brett Kolb was the event winner in the 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 50 butterfly, 50 free and 50 back. He dropped two seconds 200 free. Canfield won the 50 breast, and dropped five seconds in the 100 IM, dropped 11 seconds in the 100 free and dropped 17 seconds in the 50 butterfly.

Mandell dropped 11 seconds in the 100 free, one second in the 50 back, seven seconds in the 100 back and dropped four seconds in the 50 free. Gutierrez dropped four seconds and won the 50 back, and won the 50 free.

Greco shoots 69 in Jr. state event

Nicholas Greco shot a 3-under-par 69 for the first day lead in the 15-17 division at the Nevada State Junior Amateur Championship at Eagle Valley East on Monday.

Greco has a one-shot lead over Soungja Baek and Jordan Wright. Cole Erquiaga and Frank Frisbee are tied for fourth at 71.

In the boys 13-14 division, Ben Davis shot a 69 and holds a two-stroke lead over Stephen Osborne, Steven Holetz is third with a 73.

In the girls' 15-17 division, Melanie Chambers and Jamie Donozio are tied for first at 72. Brittany Whatley is a stroke back at 73 and Brianna Becker is fourth with a 76. Carson's Heather Evans is eighth with an 89 and Allison Vondrak is 12th with a 97.

In the 13-14 division, Natalie Yamamoto leads with a 75, four shots better than Alice Duan.

Paul, Hess record hole-in-ones

Nick Paul scored a hole-in-one on the 139-yard par-3 fifth at Empire Ranch during weekly men's club play on June 23. The shot was witnessed by John Masiello, Jim Green and John Lewis.

On June 25, Kathy Hess aced the 92-yard par-3 17th at Thunder Canyon. She used a 9-iron.

Rogney, Murray win 2-man best ball

Pete Rogney and John Murray combined for a net 61 to win Carson valley Golf Club's Men's Club 2-man best ball tournament.

John Dorman and Russ Coons were second with a 63, while Marc Menezes and Matt Budjako were third with a 65,

In Flight B, Bill Allen (with a blind draw) shot a net 55 to win easily over John Guidicatti and John Carey, who combined for a 61. Neal Bain and Anthony Moore were third with a 64.

Thomas wins A Flight at Empire Ranch

Terry Thomas shot a net 63 win Flight A at Empire Ranch's Senior Men's Club stroke play tournament on June 22.

David Knighton and Nick Paul were next with a 66. In Flight B, Ross Sidebottom and Jim Green shot 65s, while Dan Powers shot 66. In Flight C, Don Becker won with a 63 followed by Hans Ehrlin with a 65 and Joseph Harm with a 67.

Plymell captures win at T. Canyon

Randy Plymell scored 22 points to win the Thunder Canyon Men's Club Stableford tournament on June 24.

Virginia Bonar and Claudia Goodnight tied for first in the Women's Club Odd-Even event with 41s.

Bret Andreas was second with an 18, while Keith Gottschalk and Paul Lumos tied for third with 16 pints apiece.

Bullets trounced by Fontanetti 17-7

The Nevada Bullets fell behind 10-2 after two innings and dropped a 17-7 decision to Fontanetti in a Far West League baseball game Sunday at Western Nevada College.

Tyson Flannery was shelled for seven runs in 1-plus innings. Fontanetti pounded out 22 hits and four different players drove in three runs apiece.

C.J. Maldanado, Tanner Oates, Ray Daniels, Zach Hendrix and Colby Blueberg all had two hits for the Bullets, who dropped to 10-10 on the season. Daniels drove in two runs.

Thunder Canyon offers Tee It Up for the Troops

The National Tee It Up for the Troops Golf Tournament starts at 9 a.m. July 4 at Thunder Canyon with a ceremony and shotgun start.

The $80 cost per person includes golf, a golf cart and the barbecue lunch.

The event is open to the public but space is limited. To make reservations, call 882-4597 prior to July 1.
