The past few days have been decidedly hotter than anything else this summer. These are the days when they burn the back of a man's neck and hours of restless agony each night coaxing a cool draught of air into the rooms. The only resort is to get out the garden hose and keep everything soaked; watching meanwhile for the emissary from the water company making note of the proceedings. It must not be forgotten that in a few weeks it will be still worse.
100 YEARS AGO
"The Samourai's Expation (sic)," is a tinted film showing finely colored scenes in Japan. It gives a well constructed drama which is clear and intelligently acted. Its object seems to show a remarkable jui jitsu (sic) fight to the detach between a Samourari (sic) and a young merchant, one with a sword and another with a staff - at the Grand for 10 cents.
70 YEARS AGO
The Douglas BL9 bomber, the largest airplane ever built, lifted its 50-ton bulk off Clover Field in Santa Monica in its first test flight today.
50 YEARS AGO
The cemeteries of Carson and Western Nevada have been the target of a wave of destruction. Vandals have destroyed the old sandstone monument of Hank Monk.

Capt. Mark Yenter, son of Dorothy Berger Yenter of Carson City and grandson of Harold Berger last month received the MacArthur Leadership Award from the Army Chief of Staff, Gen. Carl Vuono.

Officials outline the investigation of Bob McKinney, who was shot and killed in Virginia City recently.
