130 YEARS AGO

The Indian Troubles: Reports the Silver State: Reports were received here yesterday of Indian troubles on King's River. Charley McDeid, who runs the Idaho stage from here (Winemucca) to Willow Creek, says that passengers were much alarmed. J. J. Mann, who has cattle on King's river, sent to Fort McDermitt. Twenty-two men under the command of Lieutenant Pitcher were sent.

100 YEARS AGO

As the work progresses of uncovering the bones of the battleship Maine, the result grows deeper in doubt. Since the night the big ship with its cargo of marines went to the bottom of Havanas harbor, there has been a constant demand that the ship be raised and the bones of the American sailors rest on native soil.

70 YEARS AGO

H. J. Strecker has announced that a bowling alley will open in the south part of the Laxalt building Saturday. Four complete alleys have been installed and benches for spectator seating.

50 YEARS AGO

Gov. Grant Sawyer's fight with Reno newspapers took the spotlight during a breakfast of governors from 10 Western states at the National Governor's conference in Honolulu.

20 YEARS AGO

The new Wal-Mart store in Carson City is ready to open. The store is located in the Southgate shopping center.
