Bertha Marie Baldwin died peacefully at Carson Tahoe Hospital on Feb. 24, 2011, with her daughter, Joyce, by her side. She was 93.
Bertha moved to Carson City from Oxnard, Calif., in June of 2008 to be closer to her daughter. She resided at Sierra Place Assisted Living from June 2008 until September 2010. Most recently she was a resident at Mountain Spring Assisted Living, where she enjoyed the loving care and attention.
Bertha was born Sept. 11, 1917, in Somerset, Ky., the ninth of 12 children. She was the last of her brothers and sister. They are now having a big family reunion. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Maurice, on April 20, 1996; her oldest daughter Anna Suggs-Lawler; and granddaughter Sara Marie Ackerman.
Bertha touched many hearts and souls with her uniquely kind character. Always a ready smile and cheerful word, she taught by her giving and gracious example.
She is survived by her daughter Anna's family, Sarina and Phil Pellegrini, their children Shana and Jarrad of San Diego, Calif., and Douglas Suggs of Santa Fe, N.M.; daughter and family, Ellen and Jim Ackerman of Tucson, Ariz., their son James and Marnie, their children Jaden and Ethan of Hawaii; daughter and family, Joyce and Gary Cook of Carson City, their sons Russell Cook, Carson City, and Wesley Cook and Brianne Baker, Portland, Ore., and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bertha will be placed next to the love of her life, Maurice, in Southern California, Saturday, March 5, 2011.
