Carson High's Brian Barnes capped his four-year varsity career by being selected to the All-Sierra League first team.
Barnes, who averaged around 14 points and four rebounds a contest, also made first team as a junior. By virtue of his selection, he also was named all-regional.
Chris Steele, also a senior, was selected to the second team. He averaged 8.5 points and 6 .1 rebounds per outing.
Matt Nolan and Trey Jensen, who came on strong offensively at the end of the season, were honorable mention selections.
The Carson High team also was the state scholastic award winner for 4A boys team. At least four of the Carson players have 4.0's or better.
Douglas' Corey Thacker, who took the Tigers to the regional finals, was named the Sierra League Coach of the Year. Niles Lujan, Bishop Manogue's talented point guard, was named the league's top player.
On the girls' side, Carson's Whitney Nash was the Senators' only first-team selection. Nash averaged 9.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest.
Jazmyn Stokes (4.8, 4.5) and Natalie Stevens (3.5, 1.4 steals), the Senators' hard-nosed defensive specialist, were selected to the second team.
Junior Eliza Matley, who averaged 7.4 points and
3.4 rebounds a contest, was selected honorable mention.
The Carson girls also won the 4A scholastic title.
TAYLOR, SANTOS HONORED
Dylan Taylor, who led Dayton in scoring at
17.8 a contest, was named the Player of the Year in the 3A-2A Lahontan League.
Jason Santos, who in his second year guided the Dust Devils to the league championship and a 20-6 record, was named the Coach of the Year.
Dayton point guard Kage Walker was named to the first team in the Lahontan League. He averaged about seven points a game and did a nice job making the Dust Devils' offense run smoothly.
Tyler Firestone (7.4 points per game) and Marcos Macias (7.7) were named to the second team. Jake Koch (5.6) was an honorable mention pick.
Taylor Hall, the top scorer on the Dayton High's girls' team, was a second-team pick.
Maribel Ledezma was an honorable mention selection.
Hall averaged six points a contest.
