Information sought in unsolved cases

Cold case investigators are looking at 18 unsolved missing person and homicide cases involving women including three cases from the surrounding counties.

According to the Nevada Threat Analysis Center the following local cases are being looked at:

• Barbara Eleanor Hoover disappeared Sept. 12, 2003, from her 5135 Tamarack St. home in Silver Springs following an argument with her husband. A body has never been found and Hoover hasn't been heard from since.

At the time of her disappearance Hoover was 67 years old. She was described as 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

• Shantelle Hudson was just 16 years old when her mother reported her missing from Dayton on Nov. 14, 1988. Shantelle had just moved to Dayton from Bishop, Calif., two weeks prior to her disappearance.

She disappeared after attending school in Dayton, but witnesses claim she was seen at a Dayton street dance two days after she left home.

Her social security number has been through numerous databases with negative results and because Shantelle has never contacted relatives, investigators surmise she is likely dead.

Lyon County Officials theorize Shantelle may have met with foul play at the street dance.

Her mother was again interviewed in 2009, in Redding, Calif., where a DNA sample was taken after a body found murdered in Phoenix matched Shantelle's description. The DNA comparison is currently under way.

• Cora R. Carillo of Carson City was found dead with a piece of clothing wrapped tightly around her neck down a 17-foot-steep embankment off Jacks Valley Road on March 1, 1981.

The cause of death was determined to be strangulation.

Carillo was 24 years old when she was last seen on Feb. 27, 1981, at a party and Feb. 28, 1981, at a Carson City store. No solid suspects were ever developed.

For longer than a year NTAC's Terrorism Liaison Officer Program has collected information from law enforcement officials concerning unsolved rural female homicides and selected missing person cases.

The cold cases include unsolved homicide and missing person cold cases that have occurred from 1972 to 2010.

Investigators are requesting the public's assistance in developing potential leads.

The 18 unsolved investigations originate from several rural Nevada Counties, and do not include cold cases from Washoe or Clark counties.
