Kicking off the New Year with a new lead pastor and a new name, LifePoint Church, formerly Carson Valley Christian Center, is positioning the communities of Northern Nevada as key areas of focus and impact for 2011.

"We're moving from the mindset of being a startup church to becoming a mature church," said Lead Pastor Bill McCready, who celebrated one year with the church on March 1. He replaced Pastor John Jackson, who took an executive pastoral position in Granite Bay, Calif. "We want to go from being a church in the community, to being the church to the community"

LifePoint Church started the new year by collecting more than 900 sweatshirts, coats and articles of clothing to give away to several community agencies in Carson City, Douglas County and South Lake Tahoe.

Today, the church begins Project 40/40, which focuses on 40 area community service opportunities in 40 days, continuing through the week of Easter.

LifePoint Church, located off Stephanie Way, offers three weekend services with fun and engaging youth activities every week: 4:30 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday.
