Two-day Sierra Swing Showcase April 2-3

High Sierra Swing Dance Club and the Carson Nugget present the Sierra Swing Showcase April 2-3 in the Nugget's upstairs ballroom, 507 N. Carson St. Dance contests and workshops for adults and youths are interspersed with open dancing to a variety of DJ music.

The Swing Into Spring Formal Dinner Dance and "Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance" contest is 6 p.m.-midnight April 2.

Cost for the full two-day event plus dinner dance is $40 until April 1 and $50 thereafter. Competitions and open dancing are $10 a day; spectators only are $5 a day; dance workshops are $5; competitions entry is $5 per person per contest; the dinner dance is $30 for advance tickets only.

All aboard the CTRH Auxiliary's V&T Wine Train

The Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary's V&T Wine Train departs at 10 a.m. April 2 from the Carson City Eastgate Depot. It returns at 3 p.m.

Tickets include wine, cheese and dessert served to and from Virginia City and a choice of three venues, either the Museum, Mine Tour, the Trolley Tour of Virginia City or The Way it Was Museum.

Lunch will be at the Red Dog Saloon, and shopping discounts are included. Shuttle service to and from C Street is included.

Tickets are $65 per person, and proceeds support the CTRH Hospital.

Footprinters to meet

The Carson Valley Footprinters will hold their monthly dinner meeting on Thursday at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden. A no-host bar starts at 6 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Guest speaker will be Chapter President Bayan Lewis, retired chief of police for the Los Angeles Police Department. He will discuss the 1997 North Hollywood Bank of America robbery and shootout.

Navy League to meet Wednesday

Navy League Carson City Council will meet 5:30-8 p.m., Wednesday at Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, 2171 Hwy 50E, Carson City. The social hour is at 5:30 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Local Navy recruiters will be guest speakers for the evening.

The Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902 and is a civilian organization with more than 50,000 members dedicated to educating American citizens and elected officials about the importance of sea power to U.S national security and supporting the men and women of the sea services and their families.

City manager to speak to Leisure Hour Club

Carson City Manager Larry Werner will speak to the Leisure Hour Club during its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson City Nugget.

As the chief administrative officer for Carson City, Werner will share his insights and perspectives on the ever-changing environment of our city, the proposed City Center Project, and take a look at the challenges and opportunities facing the city and its residents.

Emblem Club St. Pat's fundraiser planned

The Emblem Club will celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a fundraising dinner at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Carson City Elks Lodge, at Nevada and Robinson streets.

Cost is $10 per person for corned beef and cabbage with all the trimmings.

This fundraiser benefits the club's Special Charities Account for local charities, which include hearing impaired children, Safe Grad Nights, Camp TLC, Boys & Girls Club, and many more.

Model T Ford Club to have membership meeting

The Silver State Model T Ford Club will hold its monthly membership meeting Thursday, at Grandma Hattie's Restaurant, 2811 S. Carson St. The meeting will begin at 7p.m. but Model T enthusiasts are encouraged to gather for dinner at 6 p.m.

The club consists of Model T Ford enthusiasts from Western Nevada and Eastern California.

"Whether your car is running, is a project car or you're just interested in Model Ts, we welcome your attendance at our monthly meetings," said Chapter President Tony Ferris. "Our members help each other with restoration questions and get together for regular activities to learn more about their Ts and to have fun with these century-old cars."

Musical goes back in time to mullets and flashdance

Carson Performing Arts presents the musical comedy, "Back to the 80's," opening March 18 at the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson Community Center.

The show features every famous song from the 80's from Madonna to Michael Jackson plus plenty of mullet hair cuts and flashdance styles.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. March 18, 19, 25, 26 and 2 p.m. March 27. Tickets are $8-$10 and can be reserved at boxoffice@carson.K12.nv.us.
