(AP) - The Senate Judiciary Committee has unanimously approved a bill bringing Nevada's sentencing guidelines for minors in line with a U.S. Supreme Court ruling.
Introduced by Democratic Assemblyman William Horne of Las Vegas, AB134, bars life sentences without parole for minors who commit crimes other than homicide.
The bill was passed out of the committee Tuesday. It brings Nevada into compliance with a Supreme Court ruling that said life without parole for minors amounts to cruel and unusual punishment.
The measure has already passed the Assembly and now moves to the Senate floor.
