WINNEMUCCA - Dayton High's baseball team improved to 9-0 with an 8-3 win over Lowry in a 3A crossover game.
Weather permitting, Dayton will play Elko and Spring Creek today starting at 10 a.m. Both games will be played at Lowry.
Dayton right-hander Houston Berntson allowed three hits in the complete-game performance. He fanned 11 and walked three.
"We played well," Dayton coach Jay Merrell said. "Houston did another great job on teh mound. We were also able to to score runs with two outs. That was a big key."
Dayton took a 4-0 lead, as Berntson drove in two runs and Sam Hadley scored on a passed ball. Both of Berntson's hits came with two outs.
After Lowry scored in the fourth, Dayton tacked on two in the fifth and sixth innings to build a comfortable 6-1 lead before Lowry scored twice in the sixth.
In the fifth, Logan Jones delivered a two-run single and Kyle Farnworth drove in both of Dayton's runs in the sixth.
Hadley, Berntson, Farnworth, Forrest Burrows and Timo Ply all had two hits in the victory.
