Opening statements will begin today in Yerington in a child sexual assault case against a Stagecoach man.

William Billy Jack Caron, 36, is charged with 10 counts of sexual assault of a child under 14 and four counts of open and gross lewdness.

He was bound over for trial in August after three of the five alleged victims testified.

Caron is accused of molesting the girls in his truck in the desert, during trips into Carson City to pick up his wife and at the Stagecoach home he shared with his wife and mother.

Caron's roommate Andrew Carpenter, 21, was having sex with the 11-year-old sister of one of Caron's alleged victims.

In July, Carpenter pleaded guilty to lewdness with a minor under 14 and was sentenced to 10 years to life in prison.

Jury selection on the case began Monday. The trial is expected to last through the week.

Caron is being held in the Lyon County Jail on $400,000 bail.

On Jan. 28, Caron's wife, Carole Marie Caron, 51, was killed by a suspected intoxicated driver on Highway 50 East seven miles east of Dayton.

Charges have yet to be filed in that case.
