Gov. Sandoval at NNDA breakfast

Gov. Brian Sandoval addressed members of the Northern Nevada Development Authority and Carson City Chamber of Commerce last week inside the Carson Nugget.

Sandoval said he has signed 20 bills into law so far this legislative session and his top priority is still the creation of, "jobs, jobs, and more jobs."

The governor noted the recent report by the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation that showed 10,000 jobs added to the Nevada economy in March.

He said he was making good on his campaign promise to visit 100 Nevada businesses, including an electrical supply firm he recently toured in Las Vegas.

Sandoval stressed the need to maintain a predictable and stable business environment in the state, which he said would be aided by his executive order of reviewing all business regulations for their efficacy. He said he expects the report to be delivered three months prior to the date set forth in the order.

Rob Hooper, the executive director of the NNDA, said there is more than 1.3-million-square-feet of commercial space currently in use by the 20 companies that have relocated to the region in the last 18 months. He said that has meant a $100 million boost to the Northern Nevada economy.

Hooper also said there are more inquiries from interested companies while new workforce education programs are developing through partnerships with the local community college system.

Also at the event was Mike Skaggs, the executive director of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development, who addressed plans to expand the use of renewable resources, processing of the state's mining products and expansion and exportation of Nevada's engineering resources.
