USPS Stamp Out Hunger food drive

Congratulations to all the Carson City letter carriers who will again help Stamp out Hunger!

This one-day event is held across America. It is the largest single-day food drive in the nation. Last year's drive collected a record 77.1 million pounds of food donations, pushing the 18-year total to more than one billion pounds.

It is simple. Neighbors who want to get involved can leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, like canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal, next to their mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on Saturday and your wonderful mail person will gladly pick up.

WHO: Carson City Post Office

WHAT: Leave non-perishable food items, preferably not in glass containers

WHEN: Saturday

WHERE: Leave the food items by your mailboxes or swing by and drop off at the Post Office at 1111 S. Roop St.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT PRESENTS SADDLE UP FOR KIDS BBQ

Mmmmm! This event has Phil and Duane, owners of Carson City BBQ, heading up the food so you know it's going to be outstanding. And this event is all about food. From the inception of Food for Thought, it has been dedicated to filling the needs of children who go hungry.

I have seen students, children, everyday going without and I give major kudos to this group. But I want to also remind others that, prior to Rebecca Rund getting this program off the ground, Lee Radtke and the Carson AT&T Pioneers, St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the amazing Carson Kiwanis all donated food to school sites to assist these children privately.

Now it's bigger and better and the food is reaching all children in need throughout the area and this event helps raise much need funds.

Come on down, enjoy a finger-licking good barbecue and help raise money for the continued support of local children who need food.

WHO: Food for Thought

WHAT: Great food and great entertainment from the cast of "Oklahoma!", auction, silent auction, raffle.

WHEN: 4-8 p.m. May 20

WHERE: Governor's Mansion

COST: $50 per person

ADVOCATES TO END DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

This year is flying by and it's time to call and help volunteer for the Advocates to End Domestic Violence annual Taste of Downtown.

Carson City comes alive with the most amazing food from local restaurants, music, and something more. It's about community, the celebration of coming together for such a great event each year.

The "Taste" was voted Best Event in Town for a reason. Come help or call and get your ticket orders in.

When you volunteer with any of Advocates' programs from Classy Seconds, the Crisis hotline to Sexual Assault Response Advocates (SARA), you make an impact in helping someone who really needs you. Give them your time and make that impact.
